extreme culture weekend
Mar. 22nd, 2013 11:33 pmearlier this evening, we went to one concert (wagner's siegfried idyll, ibert's concerto for flute and orchestra, and beethoven's 7th obsession in e).
tomorrow morning, we fly out to exciting columbus, ohio for a sunday performance of the rite of spring. it's the 100th anniversary of the piece, and it will be performed with the dance. the dance is very rarely staged -- the orchestra is already pretty big -- and adding a dance troupe is expensive, so even without the anniversary, it's a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
tuesday we've got another concert. that one is all small ensemble brass pieces. dïe überblönde isn't as fond of brass as i am, but she agreed to go anyway. (and she survived a performance of copland's quiet city, so maybe it's growing on her.)
dïe überblönde isn't sure she'll survive the experience. it is rather a lot of serious music™ in a short period of time. however, i'm looking forward to the rite and the brass music, and we've bought the tickets, so we're going.
