my car (an ancient saturn SL2) has power locks. they're kinda handy, but far from necessary. however, they're busted. they're implemented as a normally-open rocker switch, with the extremes for lock and unlock, and return springs to keep the switch centered. the return switch on the lock side seems to have failed, so it wants to stay in the locked position. this causes all the door locks to chatter, as some sort of actuator in the doors keeps trying to lock them. with a little care, i can keep it centered, however, i'd like it fixed.

the lock switches and handles are on an obvious module set in the door. there's an equally obvious screw holding it on. i unscrewed it, but that just lets me slide the lock module around; i can't get if off. i took out all the screws i could find on the inside of the door, but no luck: nothing wants to come off.

eventually, i wised up and checked the 'net. turns out i gotta take out 30 torx-head screws from the door frame to get the body panel off, then i can get at the switch. *le sigh* guess it's time to buy an electric screwdriver.
