well, it met the ebert criterion
May. 9th, 2015 10:36 pmthe avengers: age of ultron and far too many other characters is really great joss whedon fanfic. it's the best fanfic i've seen made into a blockbuster movie. it's just not professionally written.
( and it's not joss whedon either (total, utter, and complete spoilers) )
so the movie ends up being harmless summer brain candy. if that's what you're looking for, you'll be happy. but don't mistake it for the original avengers; it ain't. we saw it in 2-d, but the action sequences might be worth seeing in 3-d... if that's your taste. see it on DVD if you're marvel-curious.
(the ebert criterion is my coining for the late roger ebert's "the movie was (not) better than staring at a blank screen for the same length of time." the movie also passes sturgeon's razor: it is in the 10% of fanfic that isn't crap. but i don't pay for fanfic.)
