one too many of our old powerline ethernet adapters croaked, so it was time to buy new ones. why not wireless? our neighborhood is lousy with hubs; i can pick up twenty or so easily. throughput sucks as a result, because everybody's competing for the same slice of bandwidth.

so we got fancy-schmancy standards-compatible, buzzword-enabled new adapters. the old ones had MAC addresses that made good mnemonics: "8a be" because "8 abe", and "b0 63" became "BO 63", and thus "stinky". (oh, MAC addresses are handy for diagnosing network problems, and knowing which box goes with which address is the really useful part.)

we bought new ones from large river online retailer. they're two sequential pair, so the addresses aren't really distinguishable. so, i gave them real names: huey, dewey, louie, and floyd. floyd connects the cable modem to the rest of the house, so he's special.

i left the other three in a pile, and told dïe überblønde to take one. she spent a couple minutes trying to decide which of them most appealed to her. she eventually took louie. that probably means something.
