the seasons go by so fast
Nov. 17th, 2021 12:26 pmlast night was the end of the DSO's chamber music season. they played an elgar piece we didn't recognize, followed by what we wanted to hear: vivaldi's "the four seasons".
which we thoroughly enjoyed. the performance was suitably spirted, and the concertmaster, david southorn, was excellent carrying all the violin solos. we spent the rest of the evening humming the themes from each season.
the performance was a bit unusual in that the instruments included a harpsichord. neither of us could remember hearing a version of "the four seasons" with one before. a tiny bit of reading reveals that the piece is scored for basso continuo, so anything that can play chords will do for the role; i guess it's usually played on a guitar.
