i saw the comet

but our field glasses aren't very powerful, and our sky is pretty bright, so it was just a faint smudge near aldebaran. while i was in the neighborhood, i looked at the hyades, the nearest star cluster, which makes up some of the brightest stars in taurus.

and the pleiades, since they're nearby. there are a lot of them, but i couldn't make out any of the nebulae around them. for that matter, even the great orion nebula was pretty pale (but i'm used to seeing it through a telescope).
