police roundup
i've been hoping police brutality would be one of the things we'd sweep away with the end of 2020. we're not there yet, but i've got a bunch of links on the topic:
let's take this ugly news first:
the ugly:
the chicago police department, abetted by the rest of the city government, attempts to cover up a botched search. the CPD has been notorious for years now, so this is hardly surprising.
and just up I-94, milwaukee botched firing their police chief.
the bad:
some judicial problems to be overcome: the monell rule, which the supremes made up, and some other judicial follies for people who own guns. i've been wondering if this will concentrate minds on the right side of the aisle, since they think the cops' shoot first and ask questions later approach only affects other people with darker skin.
and a case study of how police unions fight oversight and reform.
a post mortem on how philly phucked up the summer's protests.
the good:
philly comes clean on a police shooting.
police reform in chicago, massachusetts, minneapolis, new jersey, and wilmington, DE, AKA murder town, USA
