i've run an extension cord from our living room, out a front window, and into the neighbor's kitchen, which is at the front of her house. there's not a lot of current on that circuit when the back-up generator is running, but she was suitably grateful for the ability to run her fridge, light a lamp, and/or charge her phone. it's a 15 amp (~1700W) circuit, and unless her fridge is dramatically bigger than ours, that'll be more than plenty. our fridge has a brass plate load of 500W, which should give it a ~1000W peak load (to start the motor turning).
