i've been upgrading my mac. i put the new disks in a week ago, and finally got around to installing the USB 3 gear. the fancy internal everything-you-can-name card reader i bought seems to have a literal screw loose; something is rattling around in it. so, it's going back for replacement.
i may have to bail on the USB 3 host adapter as well. despite the recommended hacks, i can't get it to work with osx 10.6.8. which leaves me with upgrading or giving up. i'm not sure which is preferable, since i'm gonna have to check to see how backwards compatible 10.whatever-is-current is. i'm assuming completely, but i should verify that.
