i picked a dozen blueberries

from one of my bushes, yesterday. the best of them were tart, with an intense blueberry flavor, just the way i like them. i don't think all of them were quite ripe though; i'm still trying to figure out what's the best way to tell.

regardless, it's a fine start. this is the first year any of the bushes has borne fruit. that's probably because we've had a string of moderately dry years, which blueberries don't like. but all of last summer, i remembered to keep them watered, which probably caused them to set flower buds.
