twoelevenas of the national hurricane center's 5pm update, it looks like the center of damp doom sandy will pass just north of us, probably between wilmington and philly. joy. we're expected to get sustained 40-50kt winds, with hurricane-force™ (60kt+) gusts. greater joy.
hopefully the trees voted most likely to fail have already fallen in past storms. and fwiw, for the first part of the storm, the wind will be blowing generally from the north (starting NE, and shifting through north to eventually SW), which puts our house upwind of all our tall trees, except right at the end. with luck, any tree wanting answers to all its questions about the afterlife will do so early.
on the plus side, we have a generator piped into the gas mains, so we should have power. we're also well-stocked for food and water. so long as the house doesn't suffer major structural boo-boos, we should be fine.
edit: since power throughout the region is expected to fail at some point, i'll lose my net connection. this doesn't necessarily indicate that we're taking a whirlwind tour of oz.
