up, catching
Sep. 22nd, 2014 10:47 pmlast friday was the beginning of the culture season. we heard the DSO play beethoven's emperor concerto and rimsky-korsakov's scheherazade. i was very pleased by both them, and gave both of them standing ovations, something i rarely do. (the last time was a few years back, for one of the brandenburgs.)
gabriela martinez, the soloist for the emperor, had a delicate touch which i rather liked. too much piano music sounds like it's being pounded out rather than played. the DSO did a fine job balancing the voices in scheherazade, and the solo parts were rather well done.
back on the home front, our plumbing remains lightly busted. i started to disassemble my sink, and found that screw which connects the (busted) metal part to the value is frozen. oh, it turns fine, but the valve rotates with it. i called moen, but they didn't have many ideas, and none of them worked in any case. i think i'm nearing the point where i'll just buy new faucets rather than struggle with these. time is money, and i try not to sell mine too cheaply.
