paris olympics: the last bunch (probably)
Nov. 22nd, 2025 08:04 pmi'm trying to finish up posting photos from previous trips. so, this will be the last big batch from the paris olympics. i've mostly given up with sorting through the pictures from the women's vault finals. there are just too many frames, and the front view isn't the best view. i might post a few eventually, but not any time soon.
for the second day of watching track and field events, our seats weren't as good.

the shotput cage obstructed our views both the javelin run-up area and the finish line for the races. the high jump bars were at the opposite end of the stadium. some examples:

a fine view of the javelins landing, though, if one likes that:

the white arc is the minimum for the quals, and the yellow arc is the automatic qualifying distance for the finals.
but at least we got a better view of the trapeze camera used to film races:

so, i ended up with pictures of the races. i didn't take many of those; i was raced-out at that point. so, the photos i have are from races with american competitors, and/or green-clad competitors for the emerald-island fancying crowd.
like this one, which is from the last lap of the second men's 800 quals. the amusingly named mark english came in second for ireland.

but not all the races were close. this is one of the heats of the women's 800 quals:

the 100 m hurdles were good, as always, and i have photos of the first and last three heats, where athletes with proper alliegences were competing.
heat 1:

heat 3:

which shows the problem with the finish line. masai russell's (US) winning foot is behind one of the shotput net uprights.
heat 4:

sarah lavin, mid-leap, came in second for the irish.
in heat 5, grace stark, in light blue, qualified for the US.

the women's 1500 m repechage was a disappointment for sarah healy (IRL). she was close to the front of the pack in the first two laps, but ran out of steam in the last lap, and finished fourth:
